Description

Graptoveria ‘Ruby Donna’ – A Vibrant Hybrid with Stunning Color Shifts

A hybrid between Graptopetalum paraguayense (Ghost Plant) and Echeveria species, Graptoveria ‘Ruby Donna’ produces tightly packed rosettes of plump, paddle-shaped leaves that are a blend of pale green and deep ruby-red at the tips. These colors become more vivid when exposed to full sun or cooler temperatures, making it a true standout in any succulent collection.

As a compact plant, it’s ideal for windowsills, succulent arrangements, and mixed containers. It also produces small, star-shaped yellow flowers in late spring to early summer when conditions are just right.

Plant Care Tips

Light:
Enjoys bright, indirect sunlight, but full sun will intensify the red and purple hues on the leaves. Be careful not to expose it to intense midday sun for too long to avoid sunburn.

Watering:
Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry. Avoid overwatering, as the plant is sensitive to root rot. During winter, reduce watering significantly.

Soil:
Requires well-draining soil. Use a cactus or succulent mix, or amend regular potting soil with perlite for better drainage.

Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 18–24°C. Protect from frost, as it’s not cold-hardy.

Humidity:
Prefers dry conditions with low humidity. Avoid humid areas like bathrooms.

Fertilizer:
Feed sparingly in the spring and summer months with a diluted succulent fertilizer. No need to fertilize in the fall and winter.

Common Problems Faced

Leaf Drop or Soft Leaves: Overwatering is usually the cause. Ensure the soil is completely dry before watering again.

Faded Color: Insufficient sunlight causes the color to fade. Move to a brighter spot with more sunlight for better color intensity.

Stretching (Etiolation): The plant may become leggy if it doesn’t receive enough light. Place it in a brighter spot to encourage compact growth.

Pests: Rare, but mealybugs or aphids can occasionally appear. Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
